Right Focuses on Benghazi, Left Addresses Economics

May 10, 2013

A lot of focus in the conservative media news feeds these days (after their victory on the gun issue) is a strong focus on Benghazi. I haven’t commented on this, but it always struck me as typical government oversight, yet Obama’s enemies have trumped it up into an impeachable offense. This mind you, after birtherism had been silenced a bit (but there are some still trying with that). One guy going as far as claiming that is is “Watergate, coupled with Iran Contra, times ten!” This is then attempted to be justified by claiming those two Republican scandals were not as bad as they seemed, but were only hyped by “the liberal media”, which then ignored Benghazi. The supposed motive, to make Obama look good for his election campaign.

Anyway, here’s the latest financial and a couple of other topics

“The austerity agenda looks a lot like a simple expression of upper-class preferences, wrapped in a facade of academic rigor. What the top 1 percent wants becomes what economic science says we must do.

“You follow this pro-corporate trend to its logical conclusion, and sooner or later you’ll end up with a Supreme Court that functions as a wholly owned subsidiary of big business,”

Conservatives complain that the Supreme Court is so liberal, and issues like abortion, gay rights, “removing God from the public sphere” etc. (the “moral” and religious issues) are what they focus on, but it seems those are smokescreens for the economic area, where we see who’s really gaining the most.

“Short says his members are ‘concerned that the nation that they grew up in and that their businesses have flourished in will not be there for their children and grandchildren,’ and are ‘committed to trying to restore what they view are free markets in a free society in America’.”

This is what it always comes down to; “the nation they grew up in”, and why these people can’t ever be seen as the ones at least partly responsible for milking the economy. They represent the “values” of “America”, so it must be others to blame for everything.

Here’s a good one on someone admonishing banks:

  18. Interesting titled book The Benghazi Hoax, David Brock

“No one could have imagined at the start of that evening how quickly the Republican right would politicize the murder of four Americans. Or how the most basic facts would be twisted, confused, and even invented out of thin air to manufacture false charges – first to suggest that President Obama, then seeking re-election, was disengaged, feckless, or even sympathetic to terror, and then, when that faltered, to tarnish the reputation of Hillary Clinton as she mulled a 2016 presidential bid.

What has been called the “Benghazi scandal” by Republican investigators, the Fox News Channel, and right-wing radio talkers like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity is better described as the Benghazi hoax.”

  19. Dinesh D’Souza, the darling of the conservative movement who aimed to call out the Black American community for using the “victim rhetoric” of “Racism” claims to get undeserved stuff, calls Obama a “grownup Trayvon”.
